Professor Hrdy participated in the China–US Intellectual Property Dialogue: The Global Governance of Intellectual Property, held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America in Washington, DC.
This was a unique opportunity for cross-cultural exchange about intellectual property laws in China and the US. The event was proposed years ago but was halted due to covid. The full list of events and participants is below.
The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America generously hosted the event and provided a beautiful, unique setting for this engaging exchange about intellectual property and opportunities for collaboration.
Prof. Hrdy spoke on a panel about trade secrets and rights in “big data.” She was joined by Professor Yang Dong of Renmin University of China Law School and Professor Zhang Xian of China University of Political Science and Law. Prof. Yang spoke about data rights in China and current efforts to protect data in China, such as through a registration system. Prof. Zhang spoke about the weaknesses of Chinese trade secret law with respect to data and provided an original proposal for a new property interest in commercial data. The panel was seamlessly moderated by Prof. Guo He of Renmin University of China Law School. Prof. Guo, who is also the Executive Vice President Guo He, Intellectual Property Law Association of China Law Society. Discussants for the panel were Prof. Josh Sarnoff (DePaul) and Prof. Ding Xiaodong (Renmin).
The Dialogue was co-organized by Penn State Dickinson Law, the Renmin University of China, the China University of Political Science and Law, and the Intellectual Property Law Association of China Law Society.
